For these explorations I don't make drawings beyond a possible cartoon on the workbench. I have arbitrarily set the criteria to go into the shop, sans drawing but with plenty of coffee, and by the end of the day I have made a complete full-scale model. As I design and build a full-scale drawing usually develops on the work bench. It really is three-dimensional sketching as a way to seamlessly merge thought and doing - thinkering. All the ideas have these simple criteria as the foundation for the exploration - common shop equipment, no programming, no complex forming, no tooling, common labor.
Most of the ideas are a snapshot of broader range/family - side chair, lounge chair, stool. The designs are continuously developed until they are ready for production.
